The Seed

Not a stone. A seed that has to fall first.

Rudraksha is the seed of Elaeocarpus ganitrus, a tree of the Himalayan foothills, Nepal and Indonesia. Its fruit ripens a deep blue, drops, and the seed inside is cleaned and dried. The clefts running pole to pole are the mukhi — the faces — and five-mukhi beads, the ones on this bracelet, are the most common and the ones traditionally described as suitable for anyone to wear.

Because every bead is a real seed, no two are identical. Small differences in size, tone and grain are how you know what you are looking at. At the centre sits the gold capsule lock, which is the part your name goes on.

"It has to fall from the tree before anyone can wear it."

Getting the Size Right — and Putting Your Name on It

Sizing is the only thing people get wrong when they buy a bead bracelet online. It takes about thirty seconds to avoid.

  1. 1. Measure your wrist

Wrap a strip of paper or a piece of string around your wrist, mark where it meets, and lay it flat against a ruler. That number in centimetres is all you need.

  2. 2. Pick S, M or L

S is 15.2–16.5 cm and fits most women. M is 16.5–18.2 cm and fits most men. L is 18.2–20 cm. If you are between two, size up — a bead bracelet that sits slightly loose wears better than one that grips.

  3. 3. Engrave the capsule, or don't

The gold capsule lock takes up to 10 characters — a name, an initial, a short mantra. It is optional and it costs nothing extra. Plenty of people leave it blank.

  4. 4. Free shipping, 4 to 7 days

Packed in a premium box, shipped free across India, and covered by a six-month warranty against the plating fading.

Engraving is included in the price. There is no extra charge for it.

How to Tell a Real Rudraksha Bead From a Moulded One

This is the thing worth knowing before you buy any rudraksha bracelet, from us or from anybody else. Note the row about the water test — it is the most repeated piece of advice in this category and it does not work.

How to Tell a Real Rudraksha Bead From a Moulded One
Check Natural 5 Mukhi Rudraksha What this bracelet uses Moulded imitation What the cheapest listings use
The mukhi lines Natural clefts from one pole to the other, slightly uneven, never the same twice Moulded seams that repeat identically on every bead
Surface Fibrous and irregular, with visible pores when you hold it to light Smooth and uniform, often filled and buffed
Bead to bead Small differences in size, tone and grain — it is a seed Machine-identical, which is the giveaway
Weight and feel Light and woody Often heavier, or noticeably plasticky
The water test Unreliable. Genuine beads sink or float depending on density and maturity Equally unreliable — and still quoted by sellers as proof
Price Costs more, because the seed is real and graded Very cheap, for exactly that reason

Rudraksha Bracelets — Questions People Ask

Can men wear a rudraksha bracelet?

Yes — men are who it is most associated with. Rudraksha has been worn by sadhus, yogis and householders for centuries, and there is no tradition anywhere that restricts it to one gender. The M size, 16.5 to 18.2 cm, fits most men; L covers larger wrists at 18.2 to 20 cm.

Can women wear a rudraksha bracelet?

Also yes. You will occasionally hear that women should not wear rudraksha during menstruation or that it is a men's item — those are local customs, not shared rules, and plenty of practitioners disagree with them. Follow what your own family does. The S size, 15.2 to 16.5 cm, fits most women.

What are the benefits of a rudraksha bracelet?

Tradition holds that rudraksha steadies the attention in meditation and is worn as a mark of devotion to Shiva. That is a practice with a very long history and we are not going to be dismissive about it.

What we will not do is tell you that a bracelet reduces stress, balances your chakras, or changes your health. No piece of jewellery does that, and any seller who promises it is selling you something other than what is in the box. What this actually is: a real five-mukhi seed on your wrist, with your own word on the clasp, every day.

What does 5 mukhi mean, and does the number matter?

Mukhi means face. It is the number of natural clefts running down the bead — five clefts, five mukhi. Counts from one to twenty-one exist, but five is by far the most common, the most affordable, and the one traditionally described as suitable for anyone regardless of birth chart or practice. Higher counts are rarer and priced accordingly; they are not better for daily wear, only scarcer.

How do I know these are real rudraksha?

The beads on this bracelet are natural five-mukhi rudraksha and are certified. Beyond the paperwork, the checks are physical and you can do them yourself when it arrives: the mukhi lines should be uneven and slightly different on every bead, the surface should be fibrous with visible pores rather than glassy, and no two beads on the string should be identical twins. A moulded bead fails all three.

Ignore the water test. Genuine rudraksha can float or sink depending on how dense and mature the seed is, so it proves nothing in either direction — which has not stopped it from becoming the most repeated advice in the category.

Which rudraksha bracelet is best?

Honestly, the one you will still be wearing in a year, which usually means the one that fits properly and does not look out of place with the rest of what you wear. Beyond that: five mukhi for daily wear, natural beads rather than moulded, and a clasp that will not turn green. This one is 8 mm beads on a 22K gold-plated capsule lock with a 316L stainless core, which is the part that decides whether it survives daily wear.

Are there rules about wearing rudraksha?

The customs you will hear most often are to remove it before sleeping, to avoid wearing it while eating meat or drinking, and to keep it out of the bathroom. These are observances, not conditions — they vary by family and region, and plenty of people who wear rudraksha daily follow none of them.

The one piece of advice that is practical rather than devotional: keep it away from soap and prolonged soaking, because it is a seed and it will dull.

Which wrist, and can I wear it in the shower?

Traditionally the right wrist is associated with what you give out and the left with what you take in, but there is no rule everybody agrees on — wear it on whichever wrist your watch is not on. Not in the shower, though. A brief splash is fine; soap, shampoo and long soaking will dry out the beads and wear the plating on the clasp faster.

What size should I order?

Measure your wrist with a strip of paper against a ruler. S is 15.2 to 16.5 cm and fits most women, M is 16.5 to 18.2 cm and fits most men, L is 18.2 to 20 cm. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one — a bead bracelet that sits a little loose wears far better than one that grips.

Can I engrave it, and will the gold wear off?

The gold capsule lock takes up to 10 characters, included in the price and entirely optional. The plating is 22 carat over a 316L stainless core and carries a six-month warranty against fading. Plating wears from friction and chemicals rather than from time, so keeping it out of the shower and off before a swim is what actually decides how long it holds.

✦ ✦ ✦
The Practice

What people actually do with it.

i.

Rinse it

Cool water, then pat dry, before the first wear. This is custom rather than chemistry, and it takes a minute.

ii.

Say the word

Many people speak a name or a mantra over it before putting it on. If that is not your practice, skip it — nothing about the bracelet depends on it.

iii.

Wear it

Right wrist for what you give, left for what you receive, if you follow that. Otherwise: whichever wrist your watch is not on.

iv.

Keep it dry

Off before the shower and the pool. Soap and long soaking dull the seed and wear the plating on the clasp.
