Steel or Sterling Silver: Which Kada Should You Wear?
Most kadas sold as “silver” online are silver-coloured, not silver. We sell both and label them plainly, because the difference is fourteen thousand rupees and a completely different object.

Kada for Men, Engraved to Order
A kada is the one piece of jewellery a lot of Indian men wear and then never take off, which makes the metal matter more than the design. Every kada here is cut from grade 316L stainless steel — the alloy used for surgical instruments — so it does not rust through a monsoon, does not tarnish, and does not leave a mark on the wrist. Prices start at ₹990, and the engraving is included.
The lettering is laser-cut into the band rather than printed on top of it. That is the difference you notice a year later: printed and stamped lettering wears at exactly the rate you wear the piece, and an engraved kada does not.
What Is a Kada?
A kada is a rigid open bangle that slides over the hand and stays where it sits — as distinct from a bracelet, which is a flexible chain or band with a clasp. Because it is one continuous piece of metal, it gives far more room to engrave, which is why a full mantra fits on a kada and not on a chain bracelet.
One distinction worth stating plainly: the kara worn as an article of Sikh faith is traditionally sarbloh — a single piece of iron — and carries religious meaning that a steel or silver kada does not. The kadas on this page are jewellery. If you are looking for a sarbloh kara specifically, buy it from a supplier who makes them as such.
Silver Kada for Men
Two very different things get sold as a silver kada, and it is worth knowing which you are buying. Most of this collection is silver-tone 316L steel — the look of silver, from ₹990, with nothing plated on that can wear through and no tarnishing to polish out. Which Wrist, and What Size?
Convention in most of India puts a kada on the right wrist, and many men wear it on the wrist opposite their watch simply so the two do not knock against each other. Neither is a rule.
Sizing is simpler than it looks: our kadas are open-ended and fully adjustable, so you push or pull the ends to fit rather than choosing a size. If you are measuring anyway, measure across the widest part of the hand rather than the wrist — that is what the kada has to pass over.
Is a Kada Good for Men?
As an everyday piece, it is the easiest thing to start with. A kada reads as normal alongside a watch, it needs no styling decisions, and in 316L steel it is genuinely maintenance-free. Will a steel kada turn my wrist black or green?
No. Discolouration comes from copper and nickel alloys reacting with sweat. Grade 316L stainless steel contains neither in a reactive form — it is the alloy used for surgical implants — so it is safe for daily wear, safe in the shower, and suitable for most people with metal sensitivities.
